How it works

  1. 1Enter an amount. Type the amount you want to convert. The converter starts with 1 USD to EUR so you can check a unit rate before entering a larger amount. Numbers use US formatting, with a period for decimals and commas for thousands.
  2. 2Choose your currencies. Select the currency you have under From and the currency you want under To. Use the swap button to reverse the pair. The list reflects the currencies available in the current rate snapshot; changing the amount or pair recalculates locally.
  3. 3Review the estimate. Read the converted amount and the rate for one unit of the source currency. Check the source and Updated timestamp beneath the result. These indicative rates are a reference for comparisons, travel planning and budgets; they are not a quote for a transaction.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Rates come from open.er-api.com and are cached by this site. The source and the time the site refreshed its snapshot appear beneath a successful result. That timestamp describes the cached snapshot, not the time of a market trade.

Are these real-time trading rates?

No. These are indicative reference rates, not a live trading feed. Refreshing this page does not guarantee a newer market rate. Check the displayed timestamp and confirm a current quote with your bank or payment provider before making a financial decision.

Why is my bank or card conversion different?

Banks, card networks and transfer services may apply their own exchange rate, spread and fees. This calculator does not include those charges. The amount shown is an estimate, so compare the total amount your provider will actually deliver before proceeding.

How is a currency pair calculated?

Each cached currency has a value in US dollars. The converter multiplies your amount by the source currency’s dollar value, then divides by the destination currency’s dollar value. Displayed amounts are rounded to two decimal places; the unit rate uses additional precision.

What happens if the rate service is unavailable?

When a refresh fails and a saved snapshot is available, the tool can display those older rates with a warning and an Updated timestamp. If no usable data is available, it shows a message and a Retry button. Older rates may differ from current provider quotes.

Do I need an account, and is the converter free?

The currency converter is free to use and does not require an account. Once rates load, changing the amount or currency pair calculates the result in your browser without requesting a new rate for each edit. You can reverse the pair using the swap button.
